Let’s be real…
The last few weeks of second grade?
👉 Your students are done
👉 You are really done
👉 And the schedule is basically hanging on by a thread
But here’s the thing—you don’t need elaborate, Pinterest-perfect plans to survive the end of the year.
You need:
✔ simple
✔ engaging
✔ low-prep
✔ and just structured enough to keep the chaos under control
These are my favorite 2nd grade end of the year activities!
End of the Year Games
Adding games into your end-of-year plans is one of the easiest ways to keep students engaged without adding more work to your plate.
These activities strike the perfect balance between fun and learning—so you can wind down the year without total chaos 😅
Here are a few of my favorite go-to games:
- Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament
- Blooket
- Memory Games
- Trash Can Math
- Heads up, 7 up
- Sparkle
- Jeopardy
- Connect 4
- Kickball
- Scavenger Hunt
- Escape Room
- Stump the Genius
- Kahoot
Short on time? Start with this:

If you only try one activity, go with “Who Wants to be a ______ Grader? Trivia Game” because it instantly grabs attention and keeps your class focused.
Last Days Chain Countdown
Our last days of school countdown chain is one of those simple wins that keeps everyone motivated until the very end.
It builds excitement, gives students something to look forward to each day, and takes almost no prep on your part 🙌
And yes—it’s FREE.
👉 Grab your free last days countdown chain here!

I usually start this countdown with about 10 days left—just enough to build excitement without dragging it out.
We use a simple paper chain, which keeps things easy to manage (because let’s be real… I am NOT keeping balloons alive during the last weeks of school 😅).
It’s also very teacher-friendly. If I forget what activity I planned (which happens more than I’d like to admit), I can just sneak a quick peek at the chain.
Each day, we rip off a link to reveal the next day’s activity—and the kids LOVE it.
Our final days usually include things like:
- a 2nd grade kickball tournament
- popcorn + movie day
- an ice cream party
- and of course, awards day

End of the Year Slideshow
One of my favorite (and most meaningful) end-of-year activities is creating a class slideshow.
And if you’re anything like me… remembering to take pictures all year long doesn’t exactly happen 😅
That’s why I started using a “Classroom Photographer” job. Students take photos throughout the year, and by the time May rolls around, you’ve got everything you need for a slideshow—without scrambling at the last minute.

Once you have your photos, putting the slideshow together is super simple—especially with Canva.
Just upload your pictures, drop them into a pre-made slideshow template, and you’re good to go. You can easily:
- drag and drop photos into place
- add simple captions or student names
- rearrange slides in seconds
It takes the stress out of creating something meaningful—and still looks like you spent way more time on it than you actually did 😅
Class Awards Ceremony
One of my favorite last days of school activities is our class awards ceremony. After reading No More Pencils, No More Books, No More Teacher’s Dirty Looks by Diane deGroat, we roll out the red carpet to hand out end of the year awards to celebrate all the achievements my students made. From academics to personal growth, these awards highlight everything students accomplished. These editable award certificates make it super easy to customize your own awards for your class!

Step Up/Moving Up Day
👉 If you want ideas that are low-prep but actually meaningful, I share more about it here:
Step Up Day Activities for End of Year Transition to a New Grade
As we start wrapping up the year, I also like to shift students into “what’s next?” mode.
Because the end of the year isn’t just about closing things out—it’s also about helping students feel excited (not nervous) about what’s coming next.
That’s where a Step Up Day comes in.
It gives students a chance to:
✔ get a sneak peek at the next grade
✔ ask questions and build confidence
✔ and start picturing themselves being successful next year
It’s such a simple way to turn those “What if it’s harder?” worries into “I’ve got this.”
No matter how you wrap up your year, I hope these last days of school activities help you finish strong—with lots of fun, a little structure, and memories your students will actually remember.
Yes, it’s a hectic time of year… but summer is so close ☀️
