I have always been a fan of Morning Meeting. But, my least favorite thing was coming up with a fun activity that was quick and low-prep. If you’re looking for some quick and easy ways to kick off October with your class, you’re in the right place. I’ve got four simple morning meeting activities for October that will have your students engaged and ready to roll in no time. Let’s keep it easy, fun, and stress-free, because let’s be real, you’ve got plenty on your plate!
Stand, Sit, Hands on Hips
Get your students up and moving with this interactive multiple-choice activity! Each answer is paired with a physical movement, so students can respond through action. After each question, bring the class together to chat about the results. The first round of questions is all about fun, while the second round dives into trivia. This activity will keep your students engaged and energized! I like to follow up by asking questions or noting patterns like, “Bobby, you picked playing outside—what’s your favorite outdoor activity?” or “Wow! More than half the class prefers ice cream over cupcakes!” Learn more here…
Spot the Sneak
This is a twist on Pictionary. Choose 3 students to come to the board to draw simultaneously. Give 2 students the same objects and 1 student a different, but similar object. The students drawing don’t know who has what. The class must figure out which student is drawing the different object. I give students 45-60 seconds to draw. Then, I let each of the students drawing choose 1 student to guess who is the “sneak”. All you need to play is a whiteboard, markers, and some game ideas! Check out 150 ready-to-play game ideas here!
October Memory
October Memory Games are the perfect morning meeting game, brain break, or just anytime filler activity! These are ready to go for a quick and engaging break from academic instruction. Students will love the challenge of remembering what they saw in the colorful classrooms. You can try one for free here!
October Categories
So easy and adaptable! Sit in a circle. One student at a time shares something to do with October. Try to make it around the circle without any repeats. You can do a general category like the month or season. Or, you could make it more academic and specific to what you are learning. For example, maybe you just finished a social studies unit on communities. You could have each student share something you might find in a suburban community.
