Morning Meeting has always been one of my favorite parts of the school day. But let’s be honest—coming up with a quick, engaging, low-prep activity can sometimes feel like one more thing on an already full to-do list. If you’re looking for simple ways to bring some December cheer into your morning routine, I’ve got you covered! These four easy Morning Meeting activities are perfect for the holiday season and will have your students excited and ready to start the day. Let’s keep it festive, fun, and stress-free, because December is busy enough as it is!
Stand, Sit, Hands on Hips
Looking to add some holiday cheer to your morning meetings? Stand, Sit, Hands on Hips is the perfect no-prep activity to energize your students while teaching them about diverse winter holidays! With engaging trivia questions about Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and more, this interactive game combines movement and learning in a way that students will love. It’s a simple, fun way to celebrate the season while promoting inclusion and participation.
Spot the Sneak
This is a twist on Pictionary. Choose 3 students to come to the board to draw simultaneously. Give 2 students the same objects and 1 student a different, but similar object. The students drawing don’t know who has what. The class must figure out which student is drawing the different object. I give students 45-60 seconds to draw. Then, I let each of the students drawing choose 1 student to guess who is the “sneak”. All you need to play is a whiteboard, markers, and some game ideas! Check out 150 ready-to-play game ideas here!
Winter Memory
December Memory Games are a fantastic choice for Morning Meeting, brain breaks, or those moments when you need a quick and engaging activity. These ready-to-use games offer a fun challenge that gives students a break from academics while keeping their minds active. Your class will enjoy testing their memory with the vibrant, festive classroom scenes. Want to give it a try? Grab a free one here!
December Categories
So easy and adaptable! Sit in a circle. One student at a time shares something to do with Winter or December. Think cold objects, winter holidays, holiday songs/movies, things that are red or green. Try to make it around the circle without any repeats. You can do a general category like the month or season. Or, you could make it more academic and specific to what you are learning. For example, maybe you just finished a social studies unit on communities. You could have each student share something you might find in a suburban community.
Holiday 4-Corners
This is a twist on musical chairs. First, choose one student to be the leader. The leader sits in the middle of the room with their head down (no peeking!). Label the 4 corners of your room with different winter-themed words like snow, cookies, lights, gifts. Play music as students walk around the room. When the music goes off, students have to go to one of the corners (and stay there!).
The leader, without looking, picks one of the corners to eliminate. For example, if they say “snow”, then all the students who were standing in that corner must sit down. Continue the same process until there is one student left standing. They will now be the new leader.
