Planning a Popcorn Bar
A popcorn bar is interactive, customizable, and versatile for a classroom party. I love that each student can have their very own bag of popcorn to create their own personal treat. And, if they don’t finish, it’s easy to take home!
First, you need to think about what toppings you want to include. There are many sweet (and salty!) choices. Here are some ideas:
- mini marshmallows
- M&Ms
- Skittles
- pretzels
- candy hearts
- gummy bears
- yogurt-covered raisins
- sprinkles
- chocolate chips
- caramel drizzle
- cheese powder
- bacon bits
Once you decide which topping you would like to include, reach out to families to donate items. This letter is completely editable for you to share with your students’ families. After they mark what they are willing to donate, I send a confirmation slip with what they need to send and the due date.

Setting Up the Popcorn Bar
To set up the table, I used some pink bulletin board paper from the supply closet. I filled the bowls with the toppings and wrote the nap for each topping next to the bowl. I also had some Valentine’s decorations I taped on the table to make it more festive.
Pre-popped popcorn is a quick and easy solution. I happened to have a box of microwavable popcorn so I spent my prep period microwaving in the teacher’s lounge. Then, I distributed a serving size of popcorn into each paper bag. This took a little while. If you have parent volunteers, it would be the perfect job for them!
